A Project STEP was launched on 15th September 2008 (Engineer’s Day) at Shantivan Complex, Abu Road. Launching the project, Rajyogi Brijmohanji, Chief Spokesperson of Brahma Kumaris said that today, the family of humanity faces a potential disaster- the distruction of the family home (Earth). The oceans are rising, mountain glaciers are shrinking, low-lying coastal areas are eroding, and the very timing of the seasons is changing. And all indications are that the warming of the earth in the 21st Century will be significantly greater than it was in the 20th. He referred to the IPCC (Inter-governmental Panel of Climate Change) report which issued its strongest call for immediate attention to save humanity from the deadly consequences of unrestrained greenhouse gas emissions. IPCC head noble laureate Rajendra Pachauri warns: If there is no action before 2012, it becomes too late. What we do in next 2 to 3 years will determine our future. This is the defining moment.
Rajyogini Sarla didiji, Chairperson, SEW, said that we must transform the way we think, re-evaluate our priorities and principles and revive abandoned but more caring respectful attitudes, values and lifestyles, in relation to Nature and to humanity as a whole. There will be no end to the pollution of Nature until we have put an end to the pollution in our minds. <>brBK Mohan Singhal, National Co-ordinator, SEW, explained about the activities to be taken under the STEP project. The dignitories on the dias lit the candles to mark the launching of the project. The representatives from North, South, East, West and Central India were presented “Kalash” and “Flag”.
