A National Conference on ‘Scientific Awareness – Towards Holistic Development’ was organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 27th December 2004 followed by Meditation Retreat on 28th December at ORC, Gurgaon. The Conference was sponsored by Ministry of S & T, Govt. of India, and co-sponsored by NHPC Ltd. It was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr.Shri Prakash Jaiswal, MOS for Home Affairs, Govt.of India, New Delhi. The chief guest was Mr Yogendra Prasad, CMD, NHPC Ltd. The keynote address was delivered by Mr M Natrajan, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri & Secretary DRDO. The guest of honour was Mr V N Rai, MD, KRIBHCO. A panel discussion on ‘My Contribution in enhancing the Scientific Temper in Masses’ was organised in which specialists (such as DGs, MDs, EDs etc.) were the main speakers. Six technical sessions on Achievements & Contributions in various fields such as Earth Sciences, Electronics & IT, Health & Biological Sciences, Environmental & Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Applied Sciences and other Miscellaneous Sciences were also organised. The valedictory session on ‘Scientific Awareness & Self Awareness’ provided that the year 2004 was declared.
It is worth mentioning that the year 2004 was declared by Govt. of India as the year of Scientific Awareness. The main aim was to create the scientific temper among the masses so that they can contribute substantially in making India a progressive and enlightened nation. The conference at Vigyan Bhawan was organized as a culmination of the above year.
